My name is Gaaba Lakel Maria, though my family and close circles know me as Agaba Lucky. I am a strategic communicator, advocate, and passionate storyteller, driven by a deep belief in the power of communication to shape relationships, influence policy, and create meaningful change.

By training and practice, I work at the intersection of communication, advocacy, and social impact. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Communication from Makerere University and am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Strategic and Corporate Communication. My work is grounded in clarity, purpose, and results.

I began my professional journey in digital communication and writing within Uganda’s media industry, where I led digital content and website news operations for a television station, growing website traffic by 40% within my first year. In 2023, I transitioned into the non-profit sector, focusing on journalists’ safety, access to information, and the inclusion of women in public procurement. By 2026, my work evolved into programmes within the media and human rights space, with a deeper focus on media freedom and the safety of journalists across Africa.
