It’s Media Week In Uganda
It’s hashtagMediaWeek in hashtagUganda 🇺🇬. I was honoured to lead a panel of media leaders in a conversation on the role of the newsroom ombudsman (public editor) in strengthening trust between the media and the public.
On the panel: Alex Bagyenzire Atuhaire Juliet Naiga Pius Katunzi Charles Odoobo Bichachi Adolf Mbaine
While the media is rightly charged with holding leaders and institutions accountable, playing its critical watchdog role—an important question remains: who holds the media accountable to ethical and professional standards?
The newsroom ombudsman offers a vital bridge, closing the feedback loop, amplifying audience concerns, and reinforcing transparency, credibility, and self-regulation within media houses.
As media landscapes evolve and public trust is increasingly contested, these internal accountability mechanisms are not optional, they are essential.
Grateful for the rich reflections and commitment from fellow media leaders to keep this conversation going.
